The Biggest Gym Mistakes People Make

We see a lot of people complain how their long spells of hard work at the gym are not paying off, and that they are seeing no significant results. They get frustrated and start telling everyone around them how it’s not worth it, or how only steroids and supplements give results. The problem is not with the gym, but with the set of actions that people do which in turn dilute all their efforts and long haul. Here is a list of gym mistakes you should avoid:

FOCUSING ON ANYTHING BUT THE WORKOUT:
If you see your gym as a recreational center to catch up with friends, take selfies, watch TV or do anything that is not calorie-burning related, no wonder you are not seeing any results. Tell yourself why you are here, allocate your time and don’t let any distractions slow down your progress.

NOT ADJUSTING MACHINE TO ONE’S BODY SIZE:
Most of the gym equipment caters to a wide range of body sizes and types, and you are to make adjustments to each machine to suit your body’s unique needs. Not doing so and using improperly adjusted machines will not give you your desired results, and at the same time increase the risk of serious injuries, making this one of the major gym mistakes.

LIFTING TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE WEIGHT:
Women especially lift too little weight in the fear of growing bulging muscles. Although some women do develop muscles quickly, their bodies still don’t allow growth of gigantic muscles because of low testosterone levels. It is therefore okay to challenge yourself once in awhile and test your strength with a 10-15 pound dumbbell. Looking at the flip side, there are men who outdo themselves with heavy weight lifting, in the hope of displaying their manliness or achieving hunky muscles not realizing its dangers and severe risk of possible injuries.

LEAVING THE GYM WITHOUT STRETCHING:
Now that you’ve had a good round of cardio and weightlifting, it is crucial that you now prevent muscle soreness with the help of light stretching exercises. This will limber and lengthen any cramped muscle, ensuring proper range of motion and mobility.

NOT PROPERLY COOLING DOWN AFTER THE WORKOUT:
Do everyone a favor and rinse down after a sweat-soaking workout session. This will not only help others breathe better around you, but also stabilize your heart rate, improve flexibility and prepare you for the next workout.

UNREALISTIC GOALS:
Vague and impractical workout goals are one of the most common gym mistakes. Know your body type and challenge yourself accordingly. It is a little demanding but not overly difficult.
